Jazz Foundation of America was founded in New York by Dr. Billy Taylor, Phoebe Jacobs, Ann Ruckert, Cy Blank, and Herb Storfer in 1989. After the original Jazz Museum in New York City lost its space and was shut down, this group came together to start an organization to preserve and promote the legacy of jazz.
